{"id":10881,"date":"2017-01-12T10:38:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T10:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2017\/01\/12\/homelands-biggest-cybersecurity-tool-finally-covers-most-of-government\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T19:21:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T19:21:36","slug":"homelands-biggest-cybersecurity-tool-finally-covers-most-of-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/cyber\/2017\/01\/12\/homelands-biggest-cybersecurity-tool-finally-covers-most-of-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeland&#8217;s Biggest Cybersecurity Tool Finally Covers Most of Government"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Homeland Security is now providing cybersecurity risk monitoring and response services to 93 percent of federal civilian executive branch networks, according to a Jan. 11 press release.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement concerning the deployment of cyber-threat detection and defense system EINSTEIN 3 Accelerated (E3A), DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson reports the digital invader mitigation service contributes coverage to all civilian cabinet-level departments, as well as 45 federal departments and agencies, including the Departments of Energy, Commerce, Homeland Security, Interior, Justice, Labor, State, Veterans Affairs and the Office of Personnel Management.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is up from 28 percent of the civilian workforce in May 2015 and 88 percent in November 2016. Congress called for a ramp-up of EINSTEIN deployment in 2015 after news broke of the massive hack of OPM networks.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson reports that E3A has blocked over 1 million potential cyber threats on the networks covered, identifying malicious traffic and halting exfiltrations by bad actors.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;DHS is working with the remaining departments and agencies to employ E3A protections on their networks within a short period of time,&#8221; said Johnson. &#8220;I encourage these few remaining departments and agencies to work with us to deploy E3A and other cybersecurity protections across their networks as soon as possible.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More information on E3A can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/publication\/einstein-3-accelerated\" target=\"_blank\">be found on the DHS website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Homeland Security is now providing cybersecurity risk monitoring and response services to 93 percent of federal civilian executive branch networks, according to a Jan. 11 press release.
