{"id":11034,"date":"2015-06-03T17:05:57","date_gmt":"2015-06-03T17:05:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/06\/03\/schedule-70-adding-sections-for-health-it-cybersecurity\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:31:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:31:31","slug":"schedule-70-adding-sections-for-health-it-cybersecurity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/management\/2015\/06\/03\/schedule-70-adding-sections-for-health-it-cybersecurity\/","title":{"rendered":"Schedule 70 adding sections for health IT, cybersecurity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the release of a special item number (SIN) for cloud products and services on IT Schedule 70, the General Services Administration is now looking to create two more SINs for targeted technologies, namely health IT and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Office of Integrated Technology Services (ITS) plans to issue a request for information in the next two weeks asking agencies and industry to comment on what needs to be included in a health IT SIN, according to  <g class=\"gr_ gr_34 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" data-gr-id=\"34\" id=\"34\">   Soundjata  <\/g> Carty, contracting officer at the ITS Office of IT Schedule Programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>More: <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/it\/cloud\/2015\/05\/01\/schedule-70-refresh-cloud-sin\/26709749\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/it\/cloud\/2015\/05\/01\/schedule-70-refresh-cloud-sin\/26709749\/\">Schedule 70 refresh includes new cloud SIN<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A cybersecurity-specific SIN is also in the works, with an RFI expected before the end of the year, Carty said at the June 2 Federal IT Acquisition Summit hosted by 1105 Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;For health IT, we&#8217;re looking at things like interoperability and what actually makes health IT for both federal and civil health care,&#8221; Carty said, noting the sector hit $6 billion in 2014, up 14 percent over the prior year. &#8220;We&#8217;re looking to create  <g class=\"gr_ gr_38 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar multiReplace\" data-gr-id=\"38\" id=\"38\">   a SIN  <\/g> for health IT so we have a central focal point where other agencies can go to get those needs.  <g class=\"gr_ gr_37 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation multiReplace\" data-gr-id=\"37\" id=\"37\">   Currently  <\/g> it&#8217;s available because we offer IT services but we wanted one place where that can be offered.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>More: <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/it\/health\/2015\/04\/14\/65-contracts-cio-cs-health-it\/25773891\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/it\/health\/2015\/04\/14\/65-contracts-cio-cs-health-it\/25773891\/\">65 contracts awarded on CIO-CS health IT GWAC<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carty encouraged all interested persons to comment once the RFI is out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The question is what determines health IT?&#8221; said Angela Bumbrey, IT Schedule 70 Business Programs and Analysis branch chief. &#8220;We had to look to see if we already had those services existing on the current schedules. Some of them  <g class=\"gr_ gr_33 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" data-gr-id=\"33\" id=\"33\">   are  <\/g> but it&#8217;s not like they have a flashing neon sign saying &#8216;health IT.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having an established SIN should simplify the process and aggregate all those options into a single place, making it easier for agencies to compare costs and capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bumbrey noted both proposed SINs are in their infancy stages but that the process is moving
