The Federal Aviation Administration has begun beta testing of a mobile app called B4UFLY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The app provides localized information on restrictions and requirements. According to a report in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aerospace-technology.com\/news\/newsfaa-releases-beta-version-of-smartphone-app-for-unmanned-aircraft-4660124\" target=\"_blank\">Aerospace Technology<\/a>, the app&#8217;s key features include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A status indicator to let UAV pilots know whether it is safe to fly;<\/li><li>A planner mode to prepare for future flights;<\/li><li>Interactive maps;<\/li><li>Links to other FAA resources for UAV flyers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The beta test will run for several months, during which a pool of users will help identify needed fixes and improvements. After that, the FAA plans to release it to the public for Android and iOS devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FAA is also appointing two new officials to guide the agency&#8217;s work integrating UAVs into U.S. airspace. Marke Gibson, formerly executive director of the NextGen Institute, as senior advisor on UAS integration. Earl Lawrence will become director of the UAS Integration Office within the FAA&#8217;s Aviation Safety organization. Lawrence was formerly director of FAA&#8217;s Small Airplane Directorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both new executives will take their places later in
