John Kennedy, R-La., prevents funds contained in the appropriations bill from being made available for pay raises until Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta submits a plan to Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kennedy originally proposed eliminating pay raises for all executive-branch federal employees for FY19 in June 2018, in line with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/management\/budget\/2018\/02\/12\/trump-budget-will-cost-federal-employees-in-pay-and-benefits\/\" target=_blank>2019 pay freeze proposed by the Trump administration<\/a>, but the amendment was struck down in committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/management\/pay-benefits\/2018\/08\/01\/senate-passes-federal-pay-raise-for-2019\/\" target=_blank>passed a 1.9 percent federal pay raise<\/a> for the coming fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Senate is scheduled to consider the appropriations bill during the week of Aug. 20, though Kennedy\u2019s amendment has not yet been placed on the calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>The amendment was first reported by Bloomberg Law.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
