{"id":13751,"date":"2018-10-15T18:27:37","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T18:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2018\/10\/15\/harris-l3-ceos-expect-to-hold-on-to-civilian-business\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:39:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:39:26","slug":"harris-l3-ceos-expect-to-hold-on-to-civilian-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/acquisition\/2018\/10\/15\/harris-l3-ceos-expect-to-hold-on-to-civilian-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Harris, L3 CEOs expect to hold onto civilian business"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 As L3 and Harris prepare to merge into a new company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/2018\/10\/13\/reported-l3-harris-merger-would-create-seventh-largest-defense-firm-in-the-world\/\" target=_blank>L3 Harris Technologies<\/a>, Defense News spoke with the CEOs of both companies to discuss how the merger will impact their civilian businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/people.defensenews.com\/top-100\/\" target=_blank>Defense News Top 100<\/a>, the two companies combined total revenue in the civilian sector for fiscal year 2017 was $3.67 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest customers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/top-100\/2017\/08\/07\/interview-harris-ceo-bill-brown-on-narrowing-the-corporate-focus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harris CEO Bill Brown <\/a>hopes to hold on to is the Federal Aviation Association. The FAA, &#8220;probably, outside of the [Department of Defense] broadly, is our biggest single customer,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe do the [FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure] system, a number of next-gen programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown identified NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as other important customers the company plans to keep working with.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a Florida.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/farnborough\/2018\/07\/10\/how-l3-will-become-the-6th-prime-in-the-words-of-ceo-chris-kubasik\/\" target=_blank>L3 CEO Chris Kubasik<\/a>, who appears to be on the verge of achieving his goal to make L3 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/2018\/05\/09\/l3-looks-overseas-in-push-to-become-sixth-prime\/\" target=_blank>\u201csixth prime<\/a>,&#8221; noted that much of the work Harris does with the FAA overlaps with what L3 has done with the Coast Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI kind of like having the FAA business, the security and protection business, commercial pilot training \u2014 they\u2019re all in the same market to try and solve the same challenges with the synergies there,&#8221; Kubasik said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown noted Kubasik\u2019s work in the commercial aviation and security sector and said the two will \u201cevaluate how synergistic they happen to be, but we\u2019ve got a very strong position with the FAA, which we plan to continue that over
