He has been a voting member of the board since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The board \u2014\u00a0established by the Computer Security Act of 1987 and given additional authorities in the 2002 Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) \u2014\u00a0advises NIST, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget. Those recommendations inform (non-classified) federal privacy policies and best practices and NIST&#8217;s voluntary frameworks for the private sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group also authors an annual privacy report for the secretaries of DHS and the Commerce Department, directors of OMB and NSA and Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boyer takes over the chairmanship from Peter Weinberger, a\u00a0senior software engineer at Google. He will take up the gavel at the board&#8217;s next quarterly meeting, set for June 15-17.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christopher Boyer will lead the Information Security
