Here are three key takeaways:<br\/><br\/><b>1.\u00a0<\/b><b>Comey said Trump asked him to close the investigation into former\u00a0<\/b><b>national security adviser\u00a0<\/b><b>Gen. Michael Flynn.<\/b><br\/><br\/> According to Comey, President Trump dismissed other senior officials from the Oval Office after a briefing\u00a0on Feb. 14, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions, to meet privately with Comey. <br\/><br\/> &#8220;He repeated that Flynn hadn&#8217;t done anything wrong on his calls with the Russians, but had misled the vice president,&#8221; according to Comey&#8217;s opening <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligence.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/os-jcomey-060817.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: https:\/\/www.intelligence.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/os-jcomey-060817.pdf\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;He then said, &#8216;I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He&#8217;s a good guy.'&#8221;<br\/><br\/> Comey said he felt stunned, saying only that he agreed that Flynn was a good guy and proceeded to leave the Oval Office without commenting on Trump&#8217;s inappropriate actions.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to sound like I&#8217;m Captain Courageous. I don&#8217;t know whether if I had the presence of mind I would have had the courage to say to the president, &#8216;Sir, that&#8217;s wrong,'&#8221; Comey said in the hearing. &#8220;What did come to my mind was &#8216;Be careful what you say.'&#8221;<br\/><br\/> Sen. James Risch, R-Idaho, dissected Comey&#8217;s written testimony, saying that Trump&#8217;s &#8216;hoping that he will let Flynn go&#8217; is not the same as him ordering it.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;He did not direct you to let it go. He did not order you to let it go,&#8221; Risch said. &#8220;Do you know of any case where a person has been charged for obstruction of justice, or for that matter any other criminal offense, where they said or thought they hoped for an outcome?&#8221;<br\/><br\/> Other committee members took a different stance on the meeting. Specifically, Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., likened the meeting to a robber with a gun to your head, saying they &#8220;hoped you would give them your wallet.&#8221;<br\/><br\/> <b>2.\u00a0<\/b><b>Some implied Comey didn&#8217;t respect proper governmental lines and duties.<\/b><br\/><br\/> Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., suggested Comey&#8217;s actions were not befitting of someone who is director of the FBI.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;So you took as a direction from the president something that you thought was serious and troublesome but continued to show up for work the next day,&#8221; he said, which Comey confirmed. &#8220;The concern to me there is that all these things are going on \u2026 and you had taken no action. You hadn&#8217;t even reported up the chain of command \u2026 about what happened.&#8221;<br\/><br\/> Comey defended his actions, citing that &#8220;no action was the best thing I could do to make sure there was no interference with the investigation.&#8221;<br\/><br\/> Comey also mentioned that he shared with his colleagues the instances of Trump&#8217;s pressure via phone calls to clear rumors of a personal investigation. He said they discussed it and concluded that it would best be kept quiet, both to protect the integrity of investigation and to prevent a duty to correct if an investigation was later opened on Trump.<br\/><br\/> During questioning from Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., Comey said he did not tell Trump that his actions were crossing lines until his last contact with the president on April 11.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;I said the White House Counsel should contact the leadership of DOJ to make the request, which was the traditional channel,&#8221; according to his testimony. <br\/><br\/> <b>3.\u00a0<\/b><b>Comey asked Sessions to not be left alone with Trump, and then proceeded to take phone calls from him.<\/b><br\/><br\/> Sen. Margaret Collins, R-Maine, asked Comey if he spoke with anyone about educating Trump on the president&#8217;s proper relationship with the FBI after the Feb. 14 requests.<br\/><br\/> Comey said he spoke with Sessions and eventually the deputy attorney general.<br\/><br\/> &#8220;I said to the attorney general, &#8216;It can&#8217;t happen that you get kicked out of the room and the president talks to me,'&#8221; he said.<br\/><br\/> He did not specifically mention the Flynn meeting because he didn&#8217;t want to leak the information before he knew if it would hurt their investigation, he said.<br\/><br\/> Blunt asked Comey why he told Sessions that he didn&#8217;t want to be left alone with Trump, yet continued to take his phone calls.<br\/><br\/> Comey said that his statement to Sessions was broader, saying that he meant it as in Sessions is his superior and Trump should go to him first. He said he reported subsequent phone calls to the deputy attorney general (because Sessions recused himself from the Russian investigation) and on April 11 he directly mentioned the chain of command
