Matt Cartwright, D-Penn., and several other members of Congress for sponsoring an amendment to the Department of Defense\u2019s spending bill that kept civilian defense jobs from being outsourced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The A-76 outsourcing process is \u201cdeeply flawed, disruptive and costly to agency missions,\u201d AFGE\u2019s National President J. David Cox Sr. declared, citing the Government Accountability Office and the DoD\u2019s Inspector General\u2019s findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cox also said taxpayers \u201cbenefit when the government\u2019s work is performed by civil service employees,\u201d since they\u2019re more cost-effective and accountable than private-sector employees. Plus, he continued, the \u201ccurrent privatization process is biased against federal workers, which is why Congress must retain the longstanding ban on contracting out federal jobs using the flawed A-76 outsourcing method.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The amendment was added to the spending package after passing with a 253-172 vote. Amendment co-sponsors included Reps. Don Beyer, D-Va., Rob Bishop, R-Utah, Tom Cole, R-Okla., Paul Cook, R-Calif., Dan Donovan, R-N.Y., Walter Jones, R-N.C., Derek Kilmer, D-Wash., Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, Austin
