Over seven years after the federal government released its original cloud migration strategy, the Office of Management and Budget will be releasing a new cloud strategy to encourage more agencies to get moving to cloud services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the next few months we are actually releasing the new federal cloud computing strategy we are tentatively calling Cloud Smart,\u201d said Bill Hunt, digital services expert at OMB, during a June 13 ATARC event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the goal is to consolidate the cloud best practices across government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe reason why I think Cloud Smart is such a great name for this is that it\u2019s really about the knowledge building. It\u2019s about getting agencies to really understand what they\u2019ve got and how to move from where they are to a future state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original strategy, titled Cloud First and released in February 2011, was designed \u201cto accelerate the pace at which the government will realize the value of cloud computing by requiring agencies to evaluate safe, secure cloud computing options before making any new investments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
