President Donald Trump\u2019s new communications adviser says it\u2019s time to hit the \u201creset button.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci pledged to begin \u201can era of a new good feeling\u201d and said he hopes to \u201ccreate a more positive mojo.\u201d He also promised to crack down on information leaks and pledged to better focus the message coming from the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To that end, Scaramucci suggested changes to come, noting: \u201cI have in my pocket a radio studio, a television studio, and a movie studio. The entire world has changed; we need to rethink the way we\u2019re delivering our information.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump announced Friday that Scaramucci \u2014 a polished television commentator and Harvard Law graduate \u2014 would take over the administration\u2019s top messaging job. The appointment came as the president contends with sinking approval ratings and struggles to advance his legislative agenda. The president has also been frustrated with the attention devoted to investigations of allegations of his election campaign\u2019s connections to Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer abruptly resigned in protest over Scaramucci\u2019s appointment. He will be replaced by his former deputy Sarah Huckabee Sanders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The challenges for Scaramucci\u2019s new role were evident in a series of interviews, where he discussed his plans for press strategy, but was beset by questions about the Russia investigation and the president\u2019s Twitter feed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president frequently opts to directly speak to the public via Twitter. Scaramucci stressed on Fox that he would \u201clet the president be the president,\u201d adding that he wants to \u201chelp aid and abet his agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the Russia stories, Scaramucci said on Fox that a \u201ctwo-pronged approach\u201d was needed, saying that \u201cin some ways we want to deescalate things and have there be a level of diplomacy. In other ways, we want it to be very hard-hitting and war-like.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked about the president\u2019s tweets about the investigation on CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d, Scaramucci said \u201cif he thinks it\u2019s helpful to him, let him do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d that \u201cwe\u2019re going to defend him very, very aggressively when there\u2019s nonsensical stuff being said about him. And he will probably dial back some of those tweets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scaramucci also said on CNN that an unnamed person told him that \u201cif the Russians actually hacked this situation and spilled out those e-mails, you would have never seen it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He then said he was quoting the president, adding that \u201che basically said to me, hey, you know, this is — maybe they did it. Maybe they didn\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U.S. intelligence agencies have accused the Russian government of meddling through hacking in last year\u2019s election to benefit Trump and harm Clinton, and authorities are exploring potential coordination between Moscow and the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On CNN, Scaramucci called Sanders \u201cphenomenal\u201d and also said he \u201cloved the hair and makeup person that we had on Friday. So, I would like to continue to use the hair and makeup person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He later took to Twitter to stress that he was referring to his own hair and makeup, adding \u201cI need all the help I can get! #humor\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday, Scaramucci said he was deleting old tweets. Some of the tweets were at odds with Trump\u2019s views, including one that praised Hillary Clinton\u2019s competence. Trump defeated Clinton for president last year and continues to criticize her, including in several tweets Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scaramucci said on Fox that the old tweets were \u201ca total distraction.\u201d He added: \u201cWhen I made the decision to take this job, my politics and my political ideas do not matter at all. What matters is that I am supporting — subordinating all of that to the president\u2019s agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
