{"id":17475,"date":"2015-12-09T18:29:59","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T18:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/12\/09\/another-silk-road-investigator-sentenced-for-money-laundering\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:45:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:45:15","slug":"another-silk-road-investigator-sentenced-for-money-laundering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/federal-oversight\/2015\/12\/09\/another-silk-road-investigator-sentenced-for-money-laundering\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Silk Road investigator sentenced for money laundering"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Secret Service agent Shaun Bridges, 33, was sentenced to 71 months in prison and ordered to repay $651,000 he laundered using cryptocurrency during the years-long investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" assetid=\"77042596\" assettype=\"oEmbed\" src=\"https:\/\/presto-federaltimes.gannettdigital.com\/Portals\/_default\/Skins\/PrestoLegacy\/CommonCss\/images\/smartembed.png\" title=\"DEA agent sentenced for extorting Silk Road operator [ID=77042596]\" width=\"50px\"\/><span>Bridges was assigned to the FBI-led task force stationed in Baltimore, where he and others followed the digital trail left by Silk Road&#8217;s administrator, Ross Ulbricht, who was sentenced to life in prison in May.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the investigation, officials arrested a customer support specialist, Curtis Green, who they hoped to flip as an asset in the investigation. According to Bridges&#8217; indictment, the agent reset Green&#8217;s account information and moved some 20,000 bitcoins \u2014 worth about $350,000 \u2014 to a personal account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While illegal in its own right, the move also made Ulbricht suspicious, prompting him to revoke Green&#8217;s administrator access, setting back the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with Bridges, former DEA agent Carl Force also pleaded guilty to money laundering and obstruction of justice, as well as extortion related to his work on the Silk Road case. Force was sentenced to 78 months in prison in October and ordered to pay $340,000 in restitution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Secret Service agent Shaun Bridges got 71
