{"id":18527,"date":"2020-05-08T13:51:01","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T13:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2020\/05\/08\/fda-joins-gsas-modernization-program\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:48:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:48:03","slug":"fda-joins-gsas-modernization-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/it-networks\/cloud\/2020\/05\/08\/fda-joins-gsas-modernization-program\/","title":{"rendered":"FDA joins GSA\u2019s modernization program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The General Services Administration announced May 7 that the Food and Drug Administration is joining the GSA\u2019s Centers of Excellence modernization program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new FDA CoE partnership is the second new agreement announced by GSA this week after it announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/2020\/05\/05\/nih-partners-with-gsas-modernization-hub\/\" target=_blank>a partnership with the National Institutes of Health<\/a> on May 4. The CoE initiative partners with federal agencies across the government on modernization projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At FDA, the CoE will work with the agency\u2019s Office of Information Management and Technology will \u201cstrengthen an inclusive culture of employee engagement to drive the FDA\u2019s technology modernization efforts,\u201d the GSA news release said. The partnership will deliver new technology and processes to help the FDA\u2019s regulatory work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOIMT enables us to support public health by providing critical technology to all of our offices and centers,\u201d said FDA Chief Technology Officer Vid Desai. &#8220;When we put our workforce first we know they\u2019ll be better equipped to meet the challenges of the FDA\u2019s diverse mission by enabling a modern organization, strategies, and infrastructure.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other CoE project announce this week was for IT operations modernization at the NIH\u2019s National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FDA is the ninth agency joining the CoE initiative. Others are the departments of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/2020\/02\/14\/gsas-centers-of-excellence-program-adds-a-new-partner\/\">Labor<\/a>; the Consumer Product Safety Commission; the Defense Department\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mco.arcpublishing.com\/composer\/federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/2020\/03\/05\/how-gsas-innovation-initiative-is-helping-the-defense-department\/\">Joint Artificial Intelligence Center<\/a>; the Office of Personnel Management; and the Government Accountability Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FDA becomes the ninth partner
