{"id":20205,"date":"2015-02-19T20:47:33","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T20:47:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/02\/19\/the-magic-wand-approach-to-fixing-federal-it\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:54:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:54:33","slug":"the-magic-wand-approach-to-fixing-federal-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/management\/2015\/02\/19\/the-magic-wand-approach-to-fixing-federal-it\/","title":{"rendered":"The magic-wand approach to fixing federal IT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a discussion with three &#8220;New Voices in Federal IT&#8221; hosted by the Association for Federal Information Resources Management (AFFIRM) on Feb. 19, the panelists were asked to identify the one aspect of federal IT they would fix if given a &#8220;magic wand.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Budget<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We can&#8217;t get money when we need money. I&#8217;m still waiting on the release of my funds for this year \u2013 and that&#8217;s for the program office, that&#8217;s not for building an IT program. If we can get the budget figured out by congress and get them to actually pass a budget and get us our money in a timely manner so we can spend it and actually do it, that would fix the vast majority of problems.&#8221; \u2014 <i>Matt Goodrich, FedRAMP director<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Process<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Duplication and the levels of bureaucracy that you have to go through to get things approved. Those things take time \u2013 there are middle men to the middle men. So getting things through the process is a timely endeavor. I&#8217;d lessen some of those constraints.&#8221; \u2014 <i>Tim Cox, acting chief of correspondence, congressional and intergovernmental operations for ASD-PPM, OI&amp;T at Veterans Affairs<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Politics <\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I would get rid of all the politics of IT. I&#8217;m an engineer by degree \u2013 we want to solve problems.
