While the keynotes and workshop titles aren&#8217;t changing, the topics of privacy, security and government intrusion will loom over every panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The furor over whether Apple will be forced to aid the government in creating a program that\u00a0will allow the FBI to hack into the iPhone used by San Bernardino killer Syed Rizwan Farook is hitting just as an\u00a0expected 34,000 cryptographers, chief information security officers, programmers and the like gather in San Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, this year&#8217;s conference focuses on the nuts and bolts of computer security: encryption, industrial control systems, digital identity,\u00a0breaches and how to fight them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While always important to technology companies, the Apple case is raising awareness about the technical issues that create the security and privacy, or lack thereof, in the products we use daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There will always be a tension between the public&#8217;s expectation of protection from the government and concerns about government intrusion, Autodesk\u00a0CEO Carl Bass told USA Today last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t think we will ever get to the point where nothing can be broken. Go back in history\u00a0\u2014\u00a0there were locks and people who picked locks. There were secret codes and code breakers. These things will always be able to be broken,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. security establishment will be working to get its voice heard\u00a0at the conference. On Tuesday, Attorney General Loretta\u00a0Lynch will\u00a0deliver a keynote on cybersecurity and then participate in an armchair conversation on the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistant Attorney General\u00a0John Carlin\u00a0of the\u00a0National Security\u00a0Division will also talk about\u00a0terrorists&#8217; use of social media and the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A topic likely to garner lots of information is the hackability of self-driving cars. The duo\u00a0who made news last year by hacking into a\u00a0Jeep Cherokee,\u00a0Charlie Miller and\u00a0Chris Valasek,\u00a0will offer a workshop titled &#8220;Intro\u00a0to Car Hacking.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both now work at Uber&#8217;s\u00a0Advanced Technology Center\u00a0in\u00a0Pittsburgh,\u00a0a strategic partnership between Uber and\u00a0Carnegie Mellon University. The center focuses on research and development\u00a0in areas like vehicle safety, mapping and\u00a0self-driving cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference ends Friday with a question and answer session with actor\u00a0Sean Penn. He\u00a0himself wrote in\u00a0Rolling Stone\u00a0in January\u00a0that he is &#8220;the single most technologically illiterate man left standing. At 55 years old, I&#8217;ve never learned to use a laptop. Do they still make laptops?
