But October takes things a step further\u00a0\u2013\u00a0into the virtual\u00a0\u2013 by being National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM).<\/span><br\/><br\/> <span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">The Department of Homeland Security\u2019s annual awareness campaign, a collaboration with the National Cyber Security Alliance, is\u00a0now in its 13<sup>th<\/sup> year. The campaign\u00a0is intended to educate both the public and private sector about threats to the connected world that go far beyond seemingly ceaseless political tweet storms. Events and initiatives also raise awareness of tools available as safeguards and responses to a cyber incident.<\/span><br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each week in NCSAM has a theme, with the first (Oct. 3-7) being &#8220;Everyday Steps Toward Online Safety with Stop.Think.Connect.&#8221; The intention is to reinforce basic ways to secure every citizen&#8217;s online presence, regardless of age and technical ability. News, tips and a toolkit relating to reducing cyber vulnerability can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/stopthinkconnect\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s2\">www.dhs.gov\/stopthinkconnect<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ongoing themes include: &#8220;Cyber from the Break Room to the Board Room&#8221; (Oct. 10-14, 2016); &#8220;Recognizing and Combating Cybercrime&#8221; (Oct. 17-21, 2016); &#8220;Our Continuously Connected Lives: What&#8217;s Your &#8216;App&#8217;-titude? (Oct. 24-28); and &#8220;Building Resilience in Critical Infrastructure&#8221; (Oct. 31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through these themes NCSAM will address:<br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">Promoting an organization-wide cyber posture<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">Detecting and mitigating phishing attempts<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">Best practices in a world of connected smart devices<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">How physical and cyber infrastructure are linked and should be sustained.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October features multiple themes dedicated to improving both government, industry and personal
