Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai appointed Dr. Eric Burger to serve as the agency\u2019s chief technology officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That makes it vital that we have at our disposal the technological expertise to make the right policy calls for the American people,\u201d said Pai. \u201cI am pleased that Eric has agreed to join our team and lend us his vast expertise. From stopping robocalls to facilitating the transition to next-generation networks, the FCC has important work to do for American consumers, and I\u2019m grateful that we are adding such skill and experience to our team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to his appointment at the FCC, Burger served as director of the Security and Software Engineering Research Center, which works to propose solutions to problems like robocalling, rural call completion and communication accessibility. Burger also holds patents in telecommunications and has expertise in telecommunications, network, and internet technologies standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Burger takes over the position from Dr. Henning Schulzrinne, who originally served from January 2012 to August 2014 and re-entered the role in January 2017 until August 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CTO position is housed within the FCC\u2019s Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis and will serve as the senior technology official within the agency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
