{"id":22285,"date":"2015-07-06T14:18:33","date_gmt":"2015-07-06T14:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/07\/06\/hang-on-to-your-security-clearance-forms\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:53:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:53:45","slug":"hang-on-to-your-security-clearance-forms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/management\/hr\/2015\/07\/06\/hang-on-to-your-security-clearance-forms\/","title":{"rendered":"Hang on to your security clearance forms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Persons applying for a job with the federal government or current feds requiring an upgraded security clearance will have to do things the old fashioned way for a few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Office of Personnel Management recently took its Electronic Questionnaires for Investigation Processing (e-QIP) system offline to patch critical vulnerabilities and released interim procedures to accommodate agency needs in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>More: <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/omr\/opm-cyber-report\/2015\/06\/29\/opm-suspends-eqip\/29473617\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/story\/government\/omr\/opm-cyber-report\/2015\/06\/29\/opm-suspends-eqip\/29473617\/\">OPM suspends background check app to fix security hole<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the basic protocols are still in effect, just in paper form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Candidates for employment or security clearances can download the required form and deliver the completed hardcopy to the respective agency&#8217;s human resource department or security official. Agencies are required to keep a list of all investigations started through this process and might be called upon to provide a full accounting to OPM or the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, if requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three standard forms can be downloaded through OPM or General Services Administration websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>SF 85: <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opm.gov\/forms\/pdf_fill\/sf85.pdf\" title=\"http:\/\/www.opm.gov\/forms\/pdf_fill\/sf85.pdf\">OPM<\/a> | <a class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants should also keep a copy of the completed form, as they will have to reenter the information in the e-QIP system once it is back online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite these workarounds, there is currently no method for processing Top Secret, Top Secret SCI or &#8220;Q&#8221; level clearances until the e-QIP systems is back online, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>More: <\/b><a class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We recognize and regret the impact on both users and agencies,&#8221; OPM Director Katherine Archuleta and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said in a memo to agencies late last week. &#8220;OPM is committed to resuming this service as soon as prudent and practicable.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the initial announcement
