{"id":22427,"date":"2017-08-23T15:08:23","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T15:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2017\/08\/23\/former-post-office-janitor-pleads-guilty-to-mail-theft\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:48:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:48:29","slug":"former-post-office-janitor-pleads-guilty-to-mail-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/federal-oversight\/doj-fbi\/2017\/08\/23\/former-post-office-janitor-pleads-guilty-to-mail-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"Former post office janitor pleads guilty to mail theft"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LAFAYETTE, La. \u2014 A former post office janitor has admitted stealing mail in Louisiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The acting U.S. attorney in Lafayette says 39-year-old Jerome Guidry of Bayou Vista pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of theft of mail by a post office employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alexander Van Hook said in a news release that Guidry admitted taking a $50 store gift card and a $500 U.S. Postal Service money order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Morgan city police investigated a complaint that the gift card never reached its recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities said investigators found more gift cards in Guidry\u2019s vehicle, and the money order in his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A magistrate heard Guidry\u2019s plea. A federal judge must accept it to make it final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The maximum penalty is five years in prison, a year on supervised release and a $250,000
