{"id":24155,"date":"2017-05-17T08:45:35","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T08:45:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2017\/05\/17\/nist-releases-cybersecurity-framework-guidance-in-support-of-cyber-eo\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:24:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:24:24","slug":"nist-releases-cybersecurity-framework-guidance-in-support-of-cyber-eo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/home\/2017\/05\/17\/nist-releases-cybersecurity-framework-guidance-in-support-of-cyber-eo\/","title":{"rendered":"NIST releases cybersecurity framework guidance in support of cyber EO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">New draft guidance from the National Institute of Standards and Technology has been released to offer federal agencies best practices in support of President Trump&#8217;s May 11 executive order on strengthening cybersecurity.<\/span><span class=\"inbox-inbox-apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">NIST Interagency Report 8179, &#8220;The Cybersecurity Framework: Implementation Guidance for Federal Agencies,&#8221; outlines ways agencies can comply with the new mandate stating they must implement a NIST-developed framework for securing federal networks and critical infrastructure.<\/span><span class=\"inbox-inbox-apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">The NIST document can assist agencies in vetting vendors and aligning cybersecurity practices to the acquisition process; managing cybersecurity requirements and assigning responsibilities throughout an organization; and assessing how well the agency is complying with the Federal Information Security Management Act, among other data protection laws and needs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">NIST is looking for agencies to give feedback on their implementation of the guidance. Feedback will be collected at the Federal Computer Security Managers&#8217; Forum Annual Offsite Meeting, held June 20 and 21 at NIST&#8217;s Gaithersburg, Md., campus, and public comment will be accepted until June 30.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"inbox-inbox-s1\">The implementation guidance can <a href=\"http:\/\/csrc.nist.gov\/publications\/drafts\/nistir-8170\/nistir8170-draft.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">be found on NIST&#8217;s
