WASHINGTON \u2014 Two years to the month from when the idea was first publicly floated<\/a>, the Pentagon inaugurated its new Defense Security Cooperation University, with the aim of creating a workforce able to more quickly provide security assistance<\/a> to allies and partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Wednesday\u2019s event opening the new university location, located roughly a mile from the Pentagon, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy John Rood, Defense Security Cooperation Agency head Lt. Gen. Charles Hooper and Cara Abercrombie, the new president of the university, all praised the opening of the office as a new start for the Pentagon\u2019s security assistance mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe security cooperation profession has not been truly complete until today,\u201d said Hooper, who during his time as head of DSCA has emphasized the need to update workforce training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vision for the university has shifted over time, although the goal remained largely consistent. When it was first announced by Hooper in October 2017, it sounded like a new, all-encompassing educational facility. A year later, Hooper described it more as a virtual educational course<\/a> that would fit \u201ctogether a new curriculum that will serve as a strong foundation for our security cooperation career field, and our personnel, moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
