Further details were omitted during the release of the so-called skinny budget, a process common for new administrations who need extra time to build out their first budget request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The budget request is not expected to include reliable numbers for Future Years Defense Program projections. It is expected the budget request will feature attempts to divest existing systems, something Congress often moves to reverse during the markup process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republican lawmakers have hit back at the $715 billion figure, saying it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/2021\/05\/13\/cheney-republicans-have-a-red-line-on-bidens-defense-budget\/\">does not match a need<\/a> \u2014 articulated under the previous administration \u2014 for annual 3-5 percent growth in defense spending. Progressive Democrats, meanwhile, are looking for ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/budget\/2021\/05\/12\/bernie-sanders-wants-to-cut-defense-spending-not-all-democrats-agree\/\">cut spending
