{"id":24966,"date":"2022-09-23T18:23:07","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T18:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2022\/09\/23\/dejoy-announces-3-pay-raise-for-us-postal-service-employees\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T05:03:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T05:03:54","slug":"dejoy-announces-3-pay-raise-for-us-postal-service-employees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/management\/pay-benefits\/2022\/09\/23\/dejoy-announces-3-pay-raise-for-us-postal-service-employees\/","title":{"rendered":"DeJoy announces pay raise for US Postal Service employees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All non-bargaining employees of the U.S. Postal Service will get a 3% salary raise on their paychecks, Postmaster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/federal-oversight\/2022\/08\/24\/can-biden-fire-us-postmaster-general-louis-dejoy\/\" target=\"_blank\">General Louis DeJoy<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/naps.org\/files\/galleries\/Non-Bargaining_Pay_Increase_DeJoy_09_21_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The salary increase will go into effect on Sept. 24, and employees should see the change reflected on their pay stubs beginning Oct. 14. The raises will apply regardless of current salary maximums for all Executive and Administrative Schedule and non-bargaining unit employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMuch has been accomplished this past year in the face of significant challenges \u2014 the continued impact of a global pandemic and record inflation,\u201d said DeJoy in a statement. \u201cOur management team consistently rises to overcome these and other challenges and perform at a high level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Association of Postal Supervisors said <a href=\"https:\/\/naps.org\/Post\/NAPS-Newsbreak-STATEMENT-ON-POSTMASTER-GENERAL-S-ANNOUNCEMENT-OF-3-PAY-INCREASE\" target=\"_blank\">in a statement<\/a> that while it applauds the agency\u2019s recognition of financial hardship imposed by high costs of living, additional pay relief for EAS personnel will be required to offset the nearly 9% inflation of the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NAPS is not a union, but advocates on behalf of 27,000 active and retired Postal Service workers and educates policymakers on the needs of this workforce. One of its biggest tentpoles has been fighting for competitive pay and benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMembers of USPS bargaining units will receive greater salary increases through their ongoing contractual and cost-of-living adjustments and step increases in the months ahead, and EAS employees should receive additional increases to maintain an adequate salary differential above the craft employees and compensation comparable to the private sector, as required by law,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years ago, NAPS sued the Postal Service over the terms of its 2016-2019 pay package, arguing that the agency violated the Postal Act by failing to provide a pay differential between clerks and carriers and the supervisors that manage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency disagreed, saying provisions in the act merely state \u201cpolicy goals\u201d that the agency \u201cshould attempt to achieve,\u201d but which are not not mandatory and enforceable directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That suit is still ongoing and not resolved by the pay increases announced this week, NAPS said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Postal Service employs approximately 625,000 workers, about 49,000 of whom are supervisors and other professional and administrative
