Truman presided over the <a href=\"https:\/\/chroniclingamerica.loc.gov\/lccn\/sn78002169\/1947-12-16\/ed-1\/seq-1\/#date1=1947&#038;index=0&#038;rows=20&#038;searchType=advanced&#038;language=&#038;sequence=0&#038;words=Board+egg+National+Poultry+Thanksgiving+Truman+TRUMAN&#038;proxdistance=5&#038;date2=1948&#038;ortext=&#038;proxtext=&#038;phrasetext=Poultry+and+Egg+National+Board&#038;andtext=Thanksgiving+Truman&#038;dateFilterType=yearRange&#038;page=1&#038;loclr=blogser\">first live turkey ceremony<\/a> by the Poultry and Egg National Board and the event in 1947 established an annual tradition at the White House. Originally, the birds presented were intended for the Thanksgiving meal. Birds given to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B.
