At least 500 prominent supporters have been invited, with some of the most pro-Trump congressional Republicans expected to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A conviction would not prevent Trump from running for or winning the presidency in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside the Manhattan courtroom, prosecutors led by New York\u2019s district attorney, Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, are expected to unseal the indictment issued last week by a grand jury. This is when Trump and his defense lawyers will get their first glimpse of the precise allegations against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-indictment-new-york-hush-money-election-488c76cf92269e2c258d5203a6e981a1\">indictment contains multiple charges<\/a> of falsifying business records, including at least one felony offense, two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the arraignment, Trump is expected to be released by authorities because the charges against him don\u2019t require that bail be set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation is scrutinizing six-figure payments made to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-cohen-stormy-daniels-grand-jury-d48153fc2d3fe7a656e8a24ad1acd082\">porn actor Stormy Daniels<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-america-donald-trump-ap-top-news-ca-state-wire-lawsuits-d8f22980841e44939399ae7179a4d583\">former Playboy model Karen McDougal<\/a>. Both say they had sexual encounters with the married Trump years before he got into politics. He also singled out Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of Trump\u2019s staunchest supporters in Congress, who is organizing a rally Tuesday at a park across from the courthouse: \u201cWhile you\u2019re in town, be on your best behavior,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump pollster John McLaughlin said the former president would approach the day with \u201cdignity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe will be a gentleman,\u201d McLaughlin said. \u201cHe\u2019ll show strength and he\u2019ll show dignity and &#8230; we\u2019ll get through this and win the election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina said over the weekend that he hoped the arraignment would be \u201cas painless and classy as possible\u201d despite its unprecedented nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Trump was also defiant. There were signs both supporting and decrying the former president stuck to posts, one urging passers-by to donate to help fund Trump\u2019s presidential library and another showing a shouting Trump behind bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public fascination with the case was evident Monday as national television carried live images of Trump\u2019s motorcade from his Mar-a-Lago club to a private, red, white and blue Boeing 757 stenciled with his name. From there, Trump was flown to New York, where cameras followed his motorcade into Manhattan and he spent the night at Trump Tower as he prepared to turn himself in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former president and his aides are embracing the media circus. After initially being caught off guard when news of the indictment broke Thursday evening, Trump and his team are hoping to use the case to his advantage. Still, they asked the judge in a Monday filing to ban photo and video coverage of the arraignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though prosecutors routinely insist that no person is above the law, bringing criminal charges against a former president carries instant logistical complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New York\u2019s ability to carry out safe and drama-free courthouse proceedings in a case involving a polarizing ex-president could be an important test case as prosecutors in Atlanta and Washington conduct their own investigations of Trump that could also result in charges. Those investigations concern efforts to undo <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/joe-biden-wins-white-house-ap-fd58df73aa677acb74fce2a69adb71f9\">the 2020 election results<\/a> as well as the possible mishandling of <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-united-states-government-indiana-donald-trump-laptops-91b5b16807b533b3ff27e9303aef38ae\">classified documents<\/a> at Mar-a-Lago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top Republicans, including some of Trump\u2019s potential rivals in next year\u2019s GOP presidential primary, have criticized the case against him.
