{"id":26734,"date":"2017-08-08T19:00:43","date_gmt":"2017-08-08T19:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/uncategorized\/2017\/08\/08\/new-guidelines-help-strengthen-cybersecurity-workforce\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:16:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:16:21","slug":"new-guidelines-help-strengthen-cybersecurity-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/cyber\/2017\/08\/08\/new-guidelines-help-strengthen-cybersecurity-workforce\/","title":{"rendered":"New guidelines help strengthen cybersecurity workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To help bolster the cybersecurity workforce, the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education has released a publication detailing a guide that will provide a common, consistent language and definition for cybersecurity positions and descriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new NIST guide, entitled the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, will serve as a reference for organization-wide definitions and categories, allowing a universal understanding between the government, academia and private sectors and allowing for clear communication between educators, certifiers, trainers, employers and employees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, the NICE Framework details the different steps that should be taken to help guide all sectors possessing the capable and ready workforce needed to keep the nation\u2019s cyber infrastructure safe. These steps include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Performing a criticality analysis, identify the knowledge, skills, abilities and tasks that successful performances in a work role rely on, as well as identifying those that are key to multiple work roles.<\/li><li>Using common lexicon that will allow for universal understanding.<\/li><li>Conduct a proficiency analysis to determine the organization\u2019s expectation level for positions. The proficiency analysis should allow for relevant tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities to be refined according to the work role.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NICE Framework also details the different tasks that educators and trainers need to be aware of to properly prepare students with the knowledge, skills and abilities they need to succeed in the
