I am 64 and don\u2019t collect SS.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reg\u2019s Response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to OPM, \u201cAn employee who receives a VSIP and later accepts employment for compensation with the Government of the United States within 5 years of the date of the separation on which the VSIP is based, including work under a personal services contract or other direct contract, must repay the entire amount of the VSIP to the agency that paid it &#8211; before the individual\u2019s first day of reemployment.\u201d Therefore, if you return to work for the government <i>after<\/i> 5 years, you wouldn\u2019t have to repay the Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment you received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Got a question for the Federal Times expert?
