WASHINGTON \u2014 With Europe in the early stages of developing their 5G networks, the Pentagon\u2019s top general in the region issued a stark warning March 5: Allies need to keep China out or risk losing the ability to integrate with America\u2019s military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testifying at the Senate Armed Services Committee, Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti<\/a>, the head of U.S. European Command and the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, said that the department has to know there is a \u201csecure 5G capability\u201d in Europe, requiring the NATO allies to be \u201cvery careful about Chinese investment\u201d in such networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe also want to know that we\u2019re secure with our allies that we connect with. And there may be an outcome [where] we can\u2019t connect with our allies unless they change the composition of their systems. We\u2019re trying to get ahead of that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
