A key goal of the Marine Corps\u2019 overhaul oriented toward potential conflict with high-tech adversaries is to make the force less trackable, including by limiting troops\u2019 use of personal cellphones<\/a>. And that\u2019s been no easy task, the top Marine officer said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marine Commandant Gen. David Berger said at a Defense Writers Group event <\/b>in Washington that Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine has underscored the need for Marines to limit the electronic signature they emit through their personal devices. That\u2019s especially hard for younger troops, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery time you press a button, you\u2019re emitting,\u201d Berger said. \u201cEvery Marine, every soldier, every sailor grows up with these now. They don\u2019t think anything about pressing a button \u2014 this is what they do all day long.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow we have to completely undo 18 years of communicating all day long and tell them, \u2018That\u2019s bad, that will get you killed, so turn your cellphone off,\u2019\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
