WASHINGTON \u2014 With the Pentagon\u2019s chief management officer role officially disestablished<\/a> by Congress, Deputy Secretary of Defense David Norquist has issued guidance on where the authorities and personnel associated with that office will go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the CMO team \u201cattempted to make the best use of the structure that Congress gave them,\u201d ultimately Congress concluded a new approach was needed, Norquist told a small group of reporters in a Monday call. As a result, the CMO\u2019s office was officially disestablished with the Jan. 1 passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, which charged Norquist to handle the logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two offices that previously existed separate from the CMO are being taken wholesale and placed back as standalone organizations. The bulk of CMO-affiliated personnel work for the director of administration and management, who oversees the operations of the Pentagon building. The other is the office of the assistant to the secretary of defense for intelligence oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both organizations have appointed leaders \u2014 Thomas Muir and Mark Dupont, respectively \u2014 and can be replaced by the Biden administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
