I have worked\n    with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service!<\/p>&mdash;\n  Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1034810550025433090?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 29, 2018<\/a>\n<\/blockquote>\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\"\ncharset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGahn became White House Counsel in January 2017 and, according to the tweet, will depart after the potential confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to become a Supreme Court justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The White House counsel serves as a powerful position in the administration, advising the president on everything from legal concerns of policy actions, legal issues related to legislation, the nomination of judges and presidential pardons. The counsel is not, however, the president\u2019s personal attorney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGahn threatened to resign in June 2017 after Trump indicated that he was going to fire Robert Muller as special counsel in the Russia investigation, but stayed on after Trump backed down on the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump did not announce who
