New information has been released in the investigation of the deaths of Marine veteran Drew DeVoursney and his girlfriend Francesca Matus in Belize.
Autopsies by officials in Belize revealed the two were strangled, according to Inside Edition. Their bodies were found in an “advanced state of decomposition,” with their wrists tied with duct tape. When they were found, DeVoursney’s body was “piled atop” Matus’ in the cane field, the website reported.
The couple went missing on April 25.
According to his official military personnel file, obtained by Marine Corps Times, Cpl. DeVoursney entered active duty at Charlotte, North Carolina, and served from November 2003 until November 2011 as a data network specialist. He deployed twice to Iraq, the first time in 2004, and a second time in 2006. His last assignment was with the 11 Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton in California.
Timothy Brandon Barfield, who served with DeVoursney in the Marines, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to hire a private investigator to investigate his friend’s disappearance. Inside Edition reported that Barfield is now in Belize with DeVoursney’s brother David, to retrieve his remains.
As of publication, more than $13,000 of the $20,000 goal has been raised. “We are, now, seeking to hire a private investigation firm to have a second look into his death because we want to truly exhaust all resources for Drew and his family. They deserve justice and peace,” Barfield told Inside Edition.
