Despite being one of the youngest veterans service organizations, Student Veterans of America is quickly growing into one of the biggest.
That growth brings many opportunities for the group, which has headquarters in Washington, D.C., and chapters at schools throughout the country, but it also comes with some unique challenges.
Among them: coordinating and communicating with all its members, working as an effective advocate for student veterans’ interests in the nation’s capital, and managing its exponential growth.
This is a particularly frenetic time for the organization, with a recent change in leadership at the top, its eighth annual national conference starting Jan. 7 in Orlando, Florida, and its ongoing effort to better track student veteran outcomes through the Million Records Project.
Jared Lyon, SVA’s new acting president and chief executive officer, came to the Military Times newsroom recently to talk about the group’s purpose and its efforts.
