SOUTH GATE, Calif. — A U.S. Marine Corps attack helicopter has returned safely to Camp Pendleton after making a precautionary landing in the Los Angeles River.
A Marine spokesman says the AH-1W Super Cobra was on a routine flight Monday when a gauge reading dropped below normal.
The two-member crew set down the aircraft in a dry area of the river in South Gate.
1st Lt. Gabriel Adibe says a maintenance team was flown out from Pendleton, about 70 miles away. He says the team found that the gauge was reading off but the helicopter was otherwise fine.
It took off again after about five hours.
