Joshua Braica as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/04\/15\/1-marine-raider-killed-two-injured-in-mrzr-accident-during-california-training-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raider<\/a> who was killed in a Polaris MRZR accident aboard Camp Pendleton, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Braica, a 29-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/04\/14\/remains-of-marine-raider-killed-in-world-war-ii-returned-to-family\/\" target=_blank>Critical Skills Operator<\/a> from Sacramento, California, lost his life Sunday after his MRZR experienced a rollover Saturday during a training evolution, a command release detailed. That incident also injured two other Raiders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Braica was evacuated to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, but succumbed to his injuries Sunday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/04\/11\/marine-officers-are-more-successful-during-raider-selection-but-marsoc-is-fielding-raiders-at-a-steady-rate\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/marine-critical-skills-operators.JPG.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Officers are more successful during Raider selection, but MARSOC is fielding Marines at a steady rate<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Marine officers have been more successful at selection over their enlisted counterparts, averaging a 46 percent selection rate over the past five years.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur thoughts are with the family and teammates of Staff Sgt. Braica during this difficult time,\u201d MARSOC said in the release. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/04\/11\/next-marine-commandant-says-marsoc-is-vital-to-the-corps-and-us-special-operations\/\" target=_blank>MARSOC<\/a> is providing care and support to them and we urge respect for their privacy as they grieve this loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Braica joined the Corps in 2010 and was assigned to 1st Raider Battalion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before becoming a Raider, he served as an intelligence specialist with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, and with Marine Aircraft Group 36, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Braica deployed twice during his more than eight-year career in the Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He first deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit as an intelligence specialist in 2011 to the Pacific region.
