{"id":14631,"date":"2016-03-10T15:56:22","date_gmt":"2016-03-10T15:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2016\/03\/10\/marine-corps-refines-list-of-approved-combat-rat-boots\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T20:30:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T20:30:47","slug":"marine-corps-refines-list-of-approved-combat-rat-boots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2016\/03\/10\/marine-corps-refines-list-of-approved-combat-rat-boots\/","title":{"rendered":"Marine Corps refines list of approved combat, RAT boots"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corps&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the service moves toward\u00a0the boot\u2019s Oct. 1<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">, 2016<\/span> adoption date, Marine <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Corps <\/span>officials set out to dispel any confusion as to which <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">specific <\/span>boots Marines can wear in uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four brands, each with a temperate and hot-weather variant, were identified last week\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">March\u00a02 <\/span>by Marine Corps Systems Command in Marine administrative message <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marines.mil\/News\/Messages\/MessagesDisplay\/tabid\/13286\/Article\/176160\/authorized-marine-corps-combat-boots.aspx\">117\/16<\/a>,<\/u> along with the approved list of Danner Rugged All-Terrain boots<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> still acceptable<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The purpose &#8230; <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of this Maradmin <\/span>is to inform and clarify which boots are certified for optional wear,&#8221; said Barb Hamby, a SYSCOM spokeswoman at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. &#8220;It\u2019s in line with the commandant wanting Marines to have options for affordable, high-quality boots.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clarification comes after <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">following <\/span>Commandant\u00a0Gen. Robert\u00a0Neller reversed course on the previous policy that mandated all Marines replace MCCBs for RAT\u00a0boots.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u2019s reversal last November of\u00a0decision last November to reverse the Corps&#8217; previous policy of mandatory RAT boots and phasing out MCCBs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MCCBs, first fielded in 2002, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">can <\/span>cost\u00a0about a third of the RAT boots.
