David Berger said during the five minute and 16-second video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commandant then compared 9\/11 to Japan\u2019s attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which brought the U.S. into World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat day changed everything,\u201d Berger said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/11\/03\/the-marine-corps-is-about-to-become-pickier-about-who-it-recruits\/\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video cuts to Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Troy Black listing off famous battles of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/military-honor\/salute-veterans\/2021\/11\/04\/how-crosses-and-mementos-help-these-marines-remember-fallen-comrades\/\" target=\"_blank\">Afghanistan and Iraq<\/a>, where Marines once again cemented themselves in history as one of the world\u2019s finest fighting forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sangin, Anbar, Fallujah, Helmand, Mosul \u2015 to most of the country they are semi-familiar names on distant maps, but for the Marines who fought there they are intimate memories and reminders of the deaths of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/07\/05\/what-makes-a-war-memorial-marines-upset-over-removal-of-beer-cans-around-camp-pendletons-horno-crosses\/\" target=\"_blank\">friends<\/a>, brothers, sisters and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/10\/21\/how-the-family-of-an-interpreter-turned-us-marine-was-saved-from-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\">comrades.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marines who fought there are heroes and legends like the Marines who made their way through Okinawa and Iwo Jima, Japan, in World War II, fought in the freezing cold in North Korea\u2019s Chosin Reservoir or who held the line during the siege of Khe Sanh in Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe earned our reputation as an elite counter insurgency force,\u201d Black said in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video then takes a look at the future and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/10\/12\/heres-where-the-marine-corps-is-headed-as-it-shifts-away-from-afghanistan-and-the-old-wars\/\" target=\"_blank\">changes the Corps <\/a>is going through as the force moves away from 20 years in the Middle East to a potential future conflict with China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat Marines are, what Marines have always been, is amphibious warfighters \u2015 and the changing battle now requires us to return to our origins, relying on foundations built by the Marines that came before us,\u201d Berger said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Black said the current force changes are just more changes in a long history of paradigm shifts the Marine Corps has gone through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe hard-won lessons of Iraq and Afghanistan and the blood Marines have shed there will not soon be forgotten,\u201d Black said. \u201cWe\u2019re using the lessons of our past combined with the weapons of the future to reimagine our warfighting abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Berger then used the video to ask Marines to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/10\/22\/the-marines-corps-wants-to-know-what-will-convince-you-to-reenlist\/\" target=\"_blank\">ideas and feedback <\/a>to \u201cmove the Corps into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video\u2019s final moments are used to honor Marine veterans who may no longer be directly associated with the Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs Marine brothers and sisters, Semper Fidelis is a pledge that we promise to live by,\u201d Berger said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite all the recent changes Berger said Corps\u2019 identity is not at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe next generation of Marines may operate differently and in different places than the Marines who wear the eagle, globe and anchor today,\u201d he said. \u201cBut they will join a long and proud heritage of Marine fighters who have never turned from a threat, never turned from an enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur infantry battalions will remain in the center of what we do and the Marine and their
