Gen. Norman L. Cooling served as the top Marine\u2019s legislative assistant in the Corps\u2019 Office of Legislative Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cooling was ousted from his position after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/congress\/2018\/01\/10\/senate-armed-services-adds-second-south-carolinian\/\">Senate Armed Services Committee<\/a> asked Secretary of Defense James Mattis to review the work atmosphere created during Cooling\u2019s tour commanding the office, according to a Marine Corps press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mattis announced Feb. 7 that President Donald Trump had nominated Cooling for a second star. It was not clear if that nomination led to the Senate committee\u2019s involvement in the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commandant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/flashpoints\/2018\/01\/26\/top-marine-warns-a-big-ass-fight-with-north-korea-will-not-go-according-to-plan\/\">Gen. Robert B. Neller<\/a>, said the Corps would \u201ccooperate fully with the Department of Defense\u201d during the review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are committed to being an organization in which every Marine has the opportunity to serve at their full potential, unimpeded by discrimination, bias, or hostile working conditions,\u201d Neller said in the statement. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brig.
