Less than a month later, FBI agents notified two BLM movement co-founders that their names were on a list kept by a different paramilitary group member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A federal magistrate judge refused Thursday to release Duncan from custody after hearing a prosecutor describe the former Marine as a potentially violent man whose parents didn\u2019t know about his white supremacist and anti-Semitic ideology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou effectively hid this side of your life,\u201d Judge James Gates concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duncan, 26, is one of four men charged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2020\/10\/27\/2-marine-veterans-involved-in-conspiracy-to-sell-hard-to-trace-guns-authorities-say\/\" target=_blank>plotting to illegally sell and manufacture guns<\/a>. Two days later, Kryscuk slowly drove around the perimeter of a Black Lives Matter rally on the campus of Boise State University for roughly 20 minutes, according to the indictment. It also says Kryscuk\u2019s vehicle was spotted near another BLM rally at a Boise park in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors told The Associated Press on Oct. 30 that the FBI notified her and fellow movement co-founder Alicia Garza that their names were on a list found in the possession of one of the suspects charged in the case. Garza tweeted about the FBI\u2019s visit to her house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cullors said she often gets death threats and usually doesn\u2019t tell her family about them, but this threat gave her \u201ca lot of pause\u201d given the proximity to the election and a recent spate of domestic terrorist attacks by far-right extremists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe beefed up our security leading up to the election,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s not a way to live to know that the work that you\u2019re doing is about changing the country to be better and that there are people that are willing to threaten your life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2020\/09\/03\/troops-white-nationalism-a-national-security-threat-equal-to-isis-al-qaeda\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Troops: White nationalism a national security threat equal to ISIS, al-Qaida<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">About one-third of troops surveyed said they have seen signs of racism and white nationalism in the ranks.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Little, a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, acknowledged Wednesday that he hadn\u2019t seen evidence of Duncan attending rallies. But he testified that Duncan tried to persuade at least one other group member to attend a rally either supporting gay people or another minority group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara Kocher showed the judge a 90-second video that she said shows Duncan firing gunshots and participating in military-style exercises. In the recruitment video, Duncan and three other members flashed \u201cHeil Hitler\u201d salutes while wearing skull masks associated with a neo-Nazi group called Atomwaffen Division, the indictment says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hate symbol was in the background in reference to the perpetrator of the 2019 mass shootings at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, whom Duncan privately considered a \u201clegend,\u201d according to a message presented by the prosecutor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCome home white man,\u201d read a message at the end of the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Defense attorney Raymond Tarlton said Duncan isn\u2019t a danger to the public or a flight risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe has every incentive to stay here and fight the good fight,\u201d Tarlton said.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2020\/02\/06\/signs-of-white-supremacy-extremism-up-again-in-poll-of-active-duty-troops\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/charlottesville.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Signs of white supremacy, extremism up again in poll of active-duty troops<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">More than half of minority service members have seen links to the hate groups among fellow troops.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duncan\u2019s father, Frank, is a Pennsylvania Baptist pastor who offered to house his son while awaiting trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve heard a lot of detail today,\u201d Frank Duncan said Wednesday after hearing testimony about his son. \u201cProbably more than I wanted to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The indictment says Duncan, Kryscuk, 21-year-old Liam Collins and 21-year-old Justin Hermanson intended for their illegally manufactured guns to be unlawfully used \u201cin furtherance of a civil disorder.\u201d Collins, Duncan and Kryscuk were arrested on Oct. 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duncan, a military contractor, served in the Marines from 2013 to 2018. Collins, who was separated from the military in September, also had been at Camp Lejeune. Hermanson, an active-duty Marine, was assigned to the same unit as Collins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kryscuk moved from New York to Boise early this year. He had previously appeared in porn videos under the name \u201cPauly Harker,\u201d according to the NCIS agent. Little said Kryscuk engaged in \u201chate porn\u201d that was \u201cracially motivated\u201d and \u201cconcentrated on minority females.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duncan moved from San Antonio to the Boise area in September and began working for a U.S. Navy contractor. Collins moved to Boise about two weeks after his separation from the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collins and Kryscuk frequently posted on \u201cIron March,\u201d a now-defunct internet message board for neo-Nazi groups, according to the indictment. \u201cBSN\u201d was the name of their paramilitary group, but the indictment doesn\u2019t explain the acronym.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe government does have a strong case against you,\u201d Gates told Duncan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Kunzelman reported from College Park, Maryland.
