Gen. John Wissler was nominated today to serve as commander of Marine Forces Command and as commanding general of Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">according to <\/span>the Defense Department announced<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> Thursday<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If confirmed, Wissler\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">He <\/span>will fill the jobs previously held <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">until recently <\/span>by <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Lt. <\/span>Gen. Robert Neller, who on Sept. 25 replaced Gen. Joseph Dunford as commandant of the Marine Corps.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As head of MARFORCOM, Wissler will be responsible for training and providing Marines to geographic combatant commanders <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">based <\/span>around the world. He will also command all <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of <\/span>the Marines based on the East Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until Sept. 11, Wissler served as commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force and commander of Marine Forces Japan in Okinawa.
