PUEBLO, Colo. \u2014 As a young boy in Pueblo, Don Milne searched the library shelves for stories of military heroes, of Americans in battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’d read any military book I could find in the children’s section and then, one day, I found ‘A Soldier’s Story’ by Gen. Omar Bradley on the shelf,” the Salt Lake City banker recalled. “I loved it and never went back to the children’s section.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those stories of American men and women at war made an indelible mark on Milne’s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Almost every combat veteran will tell you that it’s the men who were killed in action who were the real heroes,” he said. “That got me thinking about all of them \u2014 the more than 400,000 killed in World War II.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, the 58-year-old Milne began a heroic undertaking of his own, if he will allow that word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He set up a blog called “ww2fallen100” and began profiling a fallen soldier, Marine, sailor or airman each day \u2014 specifically a person who would have turned 100 years old that very day had they lived.<\/p>\n\n\n
