{"id":17055,"date":"2019-03-28T00:44:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T00:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2019\/03\/28\/bride-kicks-marine-out-of-wedding-for-wearing-his-dress-blues\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T06:00:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T06:00:35","slug":"bride-kicks-marine-out-of-wedding-for-wearing-his-dress-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2019\/03\/28\/bride-kicks-marine-out-of-wedding-for-wearing-his-dress-blues\/","title":{"rendered":"Bride kicks Marine out of wedding for wearing his dress blues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A recently married bride was not about to put up with the attention diversion created by one peacocking Marine who decided to partake in the matrimonial festivities donned in his dress blues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, she did what she thought was best \u2014 kicked him out of the wedding and sent him packing all the way back to the shores of Tripoli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the confession she shared on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/AmItheAsshole\/comments\/b3v1yg\/aita_for_asking_my_wedding_guest_to_leave_for\/\" target=_blank>popular subreddit<\/a>, \u201cAm I the A&#8211;hole?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe son of one of my husband\u2019s family friends showed up to my wedding in his marines [sic] formal wear, complete with all his medals,\u201d she wrote in the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2019\/02\/21\/the-motivated-marine-corps-origin-of-the-distracted-boyfriend-meme-rah\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/pti7vg15yxh21.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The motivated Marine Corps origin of the \u2018distracted boyfriend\u2019 meme, &#8216;rah?<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Who among us wouldn\u2019t get distracted by such a display?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, I have nothing against anyone in the military but this was a black tie optional wedding and frankly it felt very out of place and it seemed like he was just trying to show off. My wedding had over 300 guests and nobody else felt the need to wear something to make them stand out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And stand out the Marine did \u2014 back straight, heels together and toes pointed at a 45-degree angle \u2014 as requests from \u201cexcited teenage girls\u201d to pose for photos began piling up, \u201cto which he graciously agreed,\u201d the bride said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before long, the 300-guest ensemble was collectively transfixed by polished corfams, shiny eagles, globes and anchors, and medals that reflected lights from a disco ball while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AjPau5QYtYs\" target=_blank>\u201cSafety Dance\u201d<\/a> by Men Without Hats blared from the sound system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a level of adoration comparable only to&#8230; someone who had just gotten married.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emanating a \u201cthank you for your service\u201d radius of nearly 50 meters, the Marine \u2014 and what the bride perceived to be a \u201cSemper <i>I&#8221; <\/i>aura \u2014 finally proved to be too much \u201cmota, mota, gotta lotta\u201d motivation to handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrankly it just felt like the only reason he wore that was to be in the spotlight and make it about him, which I don\u2019t think you are supposed to do at someone else\u2019s wedding,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf he wants to wear that to his own wedding then fine, but the whole point of having a dress code at a wedding is so that no one guest will stand out too much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To the devastation of Marines young and old, it appears everyone is <i>not <\/i>so eager to learn of the legendary exploits of Chesty Puller, or about the innumerable lives extinguished by the lethal right knife hand of Jim Mattis, the patron saint of chaos, or how \u201cyut,\u201d \u201ckill\u201d and \u201cerr\u201d are all-encompassing terms used to express approval of anything from good training to a well-crafted burrito.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/militarytimes\/news\/your-military\/2018\/09\/05\/mattis-to-spicer-ive-killed-people-for-a-living-if-you-call-me-again-im-going-to-f-king-send-you-to-afghanistan\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP18038687404841.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Mattis to Spicer: \u2018I\u2019ve killed people for a living. If you call me again, I\u2019m going to f&#8211;king send you to Afghanistan\u2019<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">According to one passage in Bob Woodward&#039;s new book, an exasperated Mattis lashed out at former Press Secretary Sean Spicer.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe should have known this,\u201d the bride added, \u201csince the whole point of uniforms in the military is so that you don\u2019t stand out from everyone else!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The newlywed wrapped up her summary by saying that despite the apparent attention-hogging exploits of the friendly neighborhood leatherneck, she felt bad for booting him from the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAITA?\u201d she posed, asking the question for which the subreddit is named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One veteran provided a diplomatic response that garnered the support of the Reddit masses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou have to be a special kind of a&#8211;hole to wear it to a non-military wedding without specific permission of the couple,\u201d the user wrote. \u201cThis is the same as wearing white to a wedding \u2014 this puts you in competition with the bride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was rude.
