W. Lee <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">alter L. <\/span>Miller<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">,<\/span> Jr. assumed command of II MEF Thursday<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> afternoon<\/span>, replacing Maj. Gen. William <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">D. <\/span>Beydler during a <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">change of command <\/span>ceremony aboard <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Marine Corps Base <\/span>Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beydler, who has\u00a0led II MEF since July 2014, was tapped for lieutenant general and nominated for command of Marine Corps Forces Central Command in Tampa, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Miller, a career infantry officer\u00a0who served as chief of staff for U.S. Special Operations Command before taking over II MEF, will lead the more than 47,000 Marines and sailors of one of the largest and most powerful Marine air-ground task forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He previously led the Japan-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit through Operation Phantom Fury, some of the fiercest urban combat of the Iraq War. Krista James\/Marine Corps<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beydler, who will go on to lead Marines in CENTCOM, said at the ceremony that leading II MEF &#8220;has been my pleasure,&#8221; and expressed his appreciation for the Marines and\u00a0sailors<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u00a0and leadership<\/span> with\u00a0the command <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of II MEF <\/span>during his brief tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Today for me has been a day of thanks,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;One of the Corps&#8217; strengths \u2014\u00a0II MEF plays a huge part in it \u2014\u00a0is its ability to build MAGTFs rapidly and send them to do the nation&#8217;s bidding,&#8221; Miller said at the ceremony. &#8220;Once you set sail, you\u2019re going to run into a storm. We have to be ready.
