The former commander of the Wounded Warrior Regiment is accused of abusive sexual contact, fraternization and\u00a0wrongful possession of a controlled substance and related charges<\/span>, according to Marine Corps officials Installations Command<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Col. T. Shane “Rhino” Tomko, who\u00a0was relieved of command in February\u00a0of the Wounded Warrior Regiment on Feb. 12, <\/span>2015, faced allegations of misconduct that were due to loss of confidence in his ability to of his lead, was <\/span>investigated by the\u00a0ership,” said Rex Runyon, a spokesman for MCICOM.\u00a0The <\/span>Naval Criminal Investigative Service, said Rex Runyon, a spokesman for Marine Corps Installations Command.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charges \u2014\u00a0including conspiracy to obstruct justice, violations of general orders and conduct unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman \u2014\u00a0were\u00a0investigated allegations of misconduct against Tomko and charges were <\/span>preferred against Tomko him<\/span> on Feb. 11, Runyon told Marine Corps Times in an email<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is important to note that all above charges are accusations and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty,” Runyon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Tomko waived his Article 32, the military’s equivalent of a preliminary hearing in civilian court,\u00a0on March 23. Now and now the convening authority<\/span>\u00a0Maj. Gen. Charles Hudson, commander of Installations Command and the convening authority,\u00a0ICOM, <\/span>will decide what to do next, Runyon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charges Tomko faces also include violations of lawful general orders, conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman and obstructing justice, Runyon said in Friday\u2019s email. <\/span>The Washington Post first reported<\/a> on the charges against Tomko on March 19.\u00a0Further details\u00a0information <\/span>about the charges against Tomko <\/span>were as <\/span>not immediately available on Friday<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The United States Marine Corps takes seriously all incidents and allegations involving misconduct,” Runyon said on Friday<\/span>. “We demand the highest standards of conduct from all our Marines at all times.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
