{"id":19567,"date":"2015-07-26T18:02:10","date_gmt":"2015-07-26T18:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/07\/26\/marines-new-f-35-software-warns-maintainers-of-needed-fixes\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T20:25:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T20:25:08","slug":"marines-new-f-35-software-warns-maintainers-of-needed-fixes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2015\/07\/26\/marines-new-f-35-software-warns-maintainers-of-needed-fixes\/","title":{"rendered":"Marines&#8217; new F-35 software warns maintainers of needed fixes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As the Marine F-35B joint strike fighter completes final operational testing, including bomb runs and shipboard landings, a lesser publicized piece of the program critical to keeping the\u00a0jet <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">short-takeoff, vertical-landing fighters <\/span>in the air <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">recently <\/span>received its last required upgrade before the aircraft can be certified as ready for war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Affectionately known as ALIS, the Autonomic Logistics Information System used by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 out of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, serves as the information hub <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">infrastructure <\/span>for the F-35, transmitting aircraft health and maintenance needs directly to <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">action information to the appropriate <\/span>maintainers,\u00a0said Gunnery Sgt. Brian Erline, the VMFA-121 aviation logistics information management systems chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high-tech software allows <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">In short,\u00a0P<\/span>pilots <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">use the high-tech system <\/span>to create a mission profile on a hard drive that they load onto their aircraft before taking flight. The hard drive tracks flight data and flags required maintenance, and lets ground crews know <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">telling maintainers <\/span>when parts are nearing their life span and <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">and flagging those that <\/span>need to be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new upgrades also allow supply and sustainment crews to get those alerts, so maintainers get the parts they need to fix the aircraft, Erline said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ALIS is &#8220;a single management tool to support all F-35 operations,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with software upgrades, new\u00a0hardware for\u00a0ALIS also got it\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0ready for the field. It was previously\u00a0rigged on standard server racks like those found in office buildings.
