In August 2020 some Marines from deployed on Okinawa, Japan, were told to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/2020\/08\/26\/eat-around-the-mold-marines-in-japan-served-expired-food-while-on-covid-19-quarantine\/\" target=\"_blank\">eat around the mold,<\/a>\u201d by their command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charging Marines leave for a less-than-luxury stay in the barracks was quickly reversed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The policy lasted only three days and no Marines were charged leave, Maj. Kurt Stahl, a spokesman for the 3rd Marine Division said in an email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf a Marine was erroneously charged leave for time spent in ROM, the Marine\u2019s leave balance will be corrected,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The policy instituted by Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, based infantry regiment was said to have been part of an effort to improve safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe health and readiness of the force is a priority for leadership. As such, continuous assessments are made concerning the COVID-19 situation and appropriate policy updates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Explore\/Spotlight\/Coronavirus\/DOD-Response-Ti-\/\" target=\"_blank\">21,85<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Explore\/Spotlight\/Coronavirus\/DOD-Response-Ti-\/\" target=\"_blank\">0<\/a> Marines have been diagnosed with the potentially deadly coronavirus, according to the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the number of cases, Marines have so far been reluctant to take the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of April 30, 97,300 Marines and \u201ctier 1\u2033 civilians employed by the Marine Corps have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 53,100 have declined the vaccine from the Department of Defense, for a declination rate right around 35 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That rate is about double the Department of Defense declination for the COVID-19 vaccine, which sits around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Explore\/Spotlight\/Coronavirus\/DOD-Response-Ti-\/\" target=\"_blank\">17.5 percent. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\"
