As prime military moving season<\/a> approaches, we went back to our real estate experts to get some more advice<\/a> for service members and families whose relocation comes with the added pressure of selling their existing home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re not looking to become a landlord<\/a>, here\u2019s a basic how-to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Find an expert. <\/b>A real-estate reality check will help get the process started, and relying on online estimates or a neighbor\u2019s asking price from a few months back might not be the way to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUltimately, it\u2018s your home and you can price it where ever you want, which is fine if you don\u2018t need <\/i>to sell,\u201d said Cassandra Rowley, a Navy veteran and Realtor in the Seattle area<\/a>. \u201cBut if you have orders and you have to go, hire your professional and trust their experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Don\u2019t rush to renovate. <\/b>Just because you\u2019ve always thought your house needed the renovation, new paint job or new carpet you\u2019ve had in mind for years doesn\u2019t mean you should make any major changes prior to a sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon’t go crazy with upgrades, because not all upgrades will give you the desired return on investment,\u201d said Juanita Charles, an Army veteran and Realtor<\/a> near Kentucky\u2019s Fort Campbell. Instead, be sure to declutter<\/a> and depersonalize<\/a> the property to maximize its appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Set the right home value.<\/b> \u201cDon\u2019t overprice to \u2018test the market,\u2019\u201d said Travis Winfield, a retired Navy command senior chief and San Diego-based Realtor<\/a>. \u201cThe longer your home sits on the market, the more buyers think, \u2019What\u2019s wrong with it?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
