Robert J. Bianchi, chief executive officer of NEXCOM, said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTherefore, based on the close-proximity amid the shops\u2019 working conditions and the recent NAVADMIN, I believe that this will help ensure recommended social distancing standards and protect our Sailors, civilians, NEX associates, and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy\u2019s decision to shut down its barber shops follows a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/coronavirus\/2020\/03\/19\/navy-is-relaxing-grooming-standards-to-limit-exposure-to-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\">service-wide directive last week to relax its grooming standards<\/a> in an effort to increase social distancing and slow the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRelaxed hair length grooming standards will only apply to the area of the scalp\u201d to allow for \u201cadditional hair length and bulk on the sides, top and back of the head,\u201d the service said in a release last week. \u201cAt no time will relaxed grooming interfere with the proper wearing of Navy head gear proper use of protective personal equipment (helmets, masks, hoods, etc.).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy officials also confirmed a service-wide directive Friday that mandates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/2020\/03\/20\/navy-orders-commands-to-take-all-measures-to-avoid-formations-mass-gatherings\/\">commands across the fleet<\/a> take every possible measure to avoid large formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unit leadership has been instructed to \u201cremain out of congregate settings, avoid mass gatherings and maintain six feet or two-meter distance from others when possible,\u201d Lt.
