Trudy Neely found herself tearing up when she heard the tale of her uncle\u2019s final, harrowing moments in war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neely had never met her mother\u2019s older brother, Henry Edward Ellis, of Roanoke, Virginia. The 22-year-old Marine was killed in action<\/a> in 1950 \u2014 four years before Neely was born \u2014 during a firefight that erupted when his unit\u2019s convoy encountered an enemy roadblock near Koto-ri, North Korea, just five months after the start of the Korean War.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellis and his compatriots found themselves surrounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe just wanted to cry for him because you think, here is a young 22-year-old, he had to be terrified, knowing there was no way out,\u201d Neely said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd he lost his life,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m just about to cry now. But we are blessed that we can bring him home now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
