Gen. James F. Glynn took the unit from the retiring Maj. Gen. Daniel Yoo at a ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glynn last was with the special forces unit from 2011 to 2013 when he served as the commander for the Marine Raider Training Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou don\u2019t get too many opportunities to come back,\u201d Glynn said at the ceremony, according to a media release. \u201cAnd now you come back, and you stand amongst giants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. David Berger and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Troy Black were among the guests at the change of command ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Berger took the opportunity to talk about the uniqueness of MARSOC within the Marine Corps and how vital the special operations unit is to the Corps\u2019 mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have lots of stuff in the Marine Corps, we have one MARSOC, one it is that unique,\u201d Berger said, according to press notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a global force and their impact &#8230; around the world is amazing for the commandant of the Marine Corps and the sergeant major to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yoo\u2019s two years as MARSOC\u2019s commander have been eventful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The outgoing commander spearheaded the units push to implements its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marsoc.marines.mil\/Portals\/31\/Documents\/MARSOF%202030.pdf?ver=2018-03-29-143631-557\" target=_blank>Marine special operations force 2030<\/a> plan, which asked the force to consider the changes necessary to fight a near-peer adversary, which includes the consolidation of all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2020\/02\/12\/its-official-marine-raiders-leaving-california-for-a-new-home-in-north-carolina\/\" target=_blank>MARSOC forces on Camp Lejeune<\/a>, North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are a few times, I think when we get it right,\u201d Berger said of Yoo. \u201cI think that\u2019s what happened two years ago when you were put here to lead this organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it hasn\u2019t all been smooth sailing for Yoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has come under recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/opinion\/2020\/03\/07\/what-would-a-warrior-do-in-defense-of-marine-raider-charged-with-manslaughter\/\" target=_blank>criticism for his handling of an incident <\/a>in Iraq that resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/12\/16\/two-marsoc-raiders-and-corpsman-face-manslaughter-charges-in-retired-green-beret-master-sergeants-death\/\" target=_blank>the death of a retired Green Beret<\/a>.
