{"id":27855,"date":"2015-12-22T23:16:47","date_gmt":"2015-12-22T23:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/uncategorized\/2015\/12\/22\/marines-lead-u-s-efforts-against-islamic-state\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T20:32:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T20:32:54","slug":"marines-lead-u-s-efforts-against-islamic-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2015\/12\/22\/marines-lead-u-s-efforts-against-islamic-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Marines lead U.S. efforts against Islamic State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the battle against the Islamic State group gaining intensity <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">both <\/span>at home and abroad, Marines are set to lead the way in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From critical skills operators to Harrier airstrikes to quietly bolstering America&#8217;s regional allies, the Marine Corps will provide the tip of the spear in the campaign against the self-proclaimed caliphate, building on its expanded operations over the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Up front will be the Marine Corps\u00a0Special Operations Command, which assumes command of Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Iraq early next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MARSOC Raiders will provide the staff element for its next rotation, marking a milestone for the decade-old command, MARSOC spokesman Capt.
